Balcony glazing protects your balcony from rain, wind, snow and dust and turns it into a space that can be used almost all year round. Traditional balconies take light away from the main living area, however glazed balconies allow the maximum amount of light into your home while providing additional weather protection. What’s more, glass balconies are just as easy to clean as normal windows.

GlasAktiv offers a variety of systems for glazed balconies which comply with the regulations set for glass fall protection.

The balustrade systems Balardo and Baluga can also be installed as glazed balconies, and thanks to their filigrane appearance and straightforward installation are an ideal glass balcony system.

Our glass balustrade and railing system Baluga comes with a general building authority test certificate. The Balardo balustrade system features point-fixed glass panelling and can be ordered as either Baluga Single, Baluga Twin or Baluga Individual.

With two different types of post (SINGLE features singles, while TWIN features double posts) and a variety of hand rails, glass connectors, base points and support structure connectors, Baluga offers architects and designers a wide range of combinations and possibilities to suit every building.

Thanks to the general building authority test certificate an expensive, long-winded case-by-case approval (ZiE) – which can require visits to the authorities, long approval processes and expensive structural analyses – isn’t required.

In accordance with the Technical Regulations for the Use of Glass Panelling with Linear Support (TRLV), glass panelling which is mounted at an angle greater than 10° to the vertical is to be considered as overhead glazing.

GlasAktiv also offers overhead glazing in the form of glass canopies as complete systems, both as point-fixed overhead glazing and linearly mounted overhead glazing.

Clamped glazing is commonly used with safety barrier glazing, such as glass railings, glazed balconies or balustrades. With clamped glazing the glass surface is attached to a supporting structure by means of glass clamps. GlasAktiv offers glass clamps for clamped glazing, which are also available with building regulation approval (AbZ).

With clamped glazing it’s important to keep TRAV in mind. These “Technical Regulations for Safety Barrier Glazing” (TRAV) regulate which types of glass may be used, because in Germany not every form of safety glass is permitted. For example, according to TRAV, one is not allowed to install thoughened saftey glass as Mono glazing in the context of safety barrier glazing. Here case-by-case approval (ZiE) is mandatory, which can be both time-consuming and expensive.

GlasAktiv recommends the conformance tested glass clamp system Balardo, which also boasts relatively low installation cost and effort.

White glass contains less iron oxide than other glass types and has less of a green tint that float glass. GlasAktiv offers white glass from a range of manufacturers, such as Optiwhite and Diamantglas.

White glass is often used in the furniture industry, on account out its suitability for colour coatings, such as enamelling or lacquering. White glass with colour coating can be found in furniture fronts, kitchen work surfaces and kitchen splashbacks.

GlasAktiv also offers white glass as a transformed glass such as toughened safety glass or laminated safety glass.

Float glass is the most commonly used form of glass used in construction. Float glass is available in dimensions up to 3.210 x 6.000 mm and further cut and processed by the glass industry to transform it into toughened safety glass, laminated safety glass or semi-tempered glass.

GlasAktiv supplies float glass with the following thicknesses:  2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15 and 19 mm. GlasAktiv also offers float glass e.g. for shop windows, glazed façades, furniture, windows and mirrors.

One of the safety glass types offered by GlasAktiv is semi-tempered glass in accordance with DIN EN 1863. Semi-tempered glass is a form of heat-strengthened safety glass. The thermal prestressing is less intense than with toughened safety glass and hence semi-tempered glass exhibits different fracture behaviour. Semi-tempered glass is harder that normal float glass and breaks with long straight cracks which extend from the stress point to the edge of the glass pane.
